The place is crowned by a famous and ancient lake called the Renuka Lake and is one of the major pilgrim spots in Himachal Pradesh. Renuka Ji is also home to a famous gaming sanctuary and a wildlife reserve with a plethora of species of flora and fauna. Various festivities are organized during the Kartika Ekadashi in the Hindu calendar and the festivities are not to be missed

One of the most famous tourist spots in Sirmaur is the Paonta Sahib Gurudwara. It is a historical Sikh shrine situated on the banks of the Yamuna River.

The Asan Barrage is a barrage in the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border region in Doon Valley, northern India, situated at the confluence of the Eastern Yamuna Canal and the Asan River and about 11 km from Dakpathar, and 28 km. northwest of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

The area of the Sanctuary falls in the bio-geographical zone IV and bio-geographical province IV as per the classification done by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII). According to forest types classification by Champion and Seth, Renuka forest fall under group 5B/C2 i.e. dry mixed deciduous forest and group 5/051 i.e. dry Sal forest. The area forms northern limit of natural Sal forest forest which itself is limited to Badaun Dhar.
